Gazelle’s range is built around comfort and everyday use rather than one kind of riding. For city trips and commuting, the Paris and Esprit are upright, easy-to-live-with city e-bikes; the Grenoble and Avignon add suspension and more comfort; and the Chamonix has a slightly more active feel for longer rides. For carrying children and cargo, the Bloom is a family e-bike with space for two child seats, and the Cabby is a longtail that carries up to two children and the weekly shop. What makes Gazelle different

Two things define a Gazelle: comfort and durability. The riding position is upright and relaxed — what Gazelle calls riding like the Dutch — so you sit tall in traffic, see and are seen, and ride in your own clothes without straining your back. Because the bikes are made to be used every day, in all weather, they come properly equipped: integrated lights, mudguards, a rack, a chain guard and a frame lock are part of the bike rather than extras. Every model is built and tested at the Dieren factory, where each bike goes through a long programme of checks before it leaves — a large part of why Gazelles last.

Design and technology

Most Gazelle e-bikes run on Bosch motors, centrally mounted for balanced, natural-feeling assistance up to 25 km/h, with the battery integrated into the frame and a clear display at the bars. Gearing depends on the model — simple, low-maintenance hub gears on the city bikes, a stepless Enviolo hub on the C380 models that you can shift while standing still, and a Gates carbon belt in place of a chain on several, which runs clean and quiet with no oiling. Low step-through frames make getting on and off easy, hydraulic disc brakes give confident stopping in the wet, and the whole bike is set up to need as little fuss as possible between services.
